Working on the ‘Undercover project’ for Stichting Sofa I didn’t just make the 'Seamless Chair' but bench ‘Slats’ as well.
‘Slats’ was, at the time, my fantasy of what the upholstery industry should be doing to make a difference. I wanted something lighter and more transparent than all the existing room filling sofa capes. I ended up with an upholstered parody on a garden bench.
All 13 slats are individually upholstered and the bench itself is sold as a flat pack. Comfort comes from a slight curve in the slat, a very thin layer of foam underneath the upholstery and a slight flex from the wooden slat itself. ‘Slats’ is internationally distributed by Drisag and has been included in the collection of Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam.
